Here is a secret… I actually read Twitter Bios and decide whether to follow or not follow someone based on their bio.
Twitter Bio Check #1 - Make a Point with your Bio. Don’t make a list of keywords!
Your bio needs to have a mission statement or statement of purpose. What do you want people to know about you and what kind of people are you looking to follow. Please put this statement in your bio.
Twitter Bio Check #2 – Have a Purposeful url link. This should be a requirement!
If you do not have a link, forget it. I will not follow you.
Second turn-off – Your link should point to a personal website or company site. Your link should not point to your Twitter Profile, LinkedIn Profile or a Facebook profile or page site. There are way too many people who have bios with links like this. I look for content and I evaluate the url link to see if 1) the site is updated frequently and 2) what type of content is presented.
Twitter Bio Check #3 – Have a Picture of you! – Do not have a picture of an object or worse yet the default twitter icon. Color or Black/White does not matter. Having a picture of you helps me relate to you as a person. If you have a company id, a company logo is appropriate somewhere on the picture.
Remember, your Bio is the first piece of information that someone will be looking at to learn more about you. Take the time to make a good first impression.
