It was really excited to see a Major Social Media Company step up and create a state-of-the-art mobile application. Linkedin did it today with it’s mobile application update.
Review
It seriously blows the old application out of the water. The old application had buttons everywhere and it took awhile to move between updates, invitations and and inbox stream. The new interface is really very impressive. I am surprised the current desktop version has not incorporated these changes. People navigate by selecting one of four buttons:
Updates – Check out the latest updates from your contacts.
You – See the updates you have posted and add a an update in a matter of seconds
Inbox – Check out your Linkedin email with one click
Groups & More – Check out Groups you are affiliated with and see the “People You May Know” suggestions from Linkedin
From here, a simple tap of the triangle, just below the Linkedin logo takes you right back to the main menu with the four options.
Other Social Media Sites need to step up.
I really see this change as a huge step in connecting mobile technology with a social media site. Right now Facebook, Twitter, not so much and Google+ have a ways to go before their mobile applications are reliable and easy-to-use. You really need to check out this applicaiton, I really think because of its convenience, people will be drawn closer to their contacts and will take the time to post more updates on Linkedin.
The announcement was made in today’s LinkedIn Blog, August 16, 2011.
Also check out the promo video here too. What are your thoughts on the changes? You know what I think!
